15 Films We’re Amazed That Hollywood Hasn’t Remade Already
6. The Running Man
The Arnold Schwarzenegger fronted film released in 1987 was based on the 1982 novel by Stephen King. I loved this film in my younger years as it was probably as close as you got to a decent superhero film back then. There are two primary reasons why I'm surprised this isn't already being remade the first is that the remake of Total Recall was pretty rubbish, yet still made a healthy profit. The second is that The Running Man has certain things in common with The Hunger Games. And we all know how successful that franchise is made. Personally, I don't think it should be remade for the exact same reasons. It's too similar to The Hunger Games and Total Recall was pretty dire when compared to the first one. But they could really go to town on a remake of The Running Man with decent CGI being available now. Of course, they'd need to recast everyone but I think it'd be a pretty straight forward Jason Statham film if you ask me. Heck, I'd probably even go see it despite my objections to its creation. A remake of The Running Man would probably made money because regardless of the mixed reviews it got at the time back in '87, it has become a cult classic and even a remake of Death Race 2000 managed to gather a $30 million profit. Probability: I wouldn't be surprised if there are spec scripts piling up in a corner of an office right now.
