9. Thundercats
Yes, alright, technically it's a television series. But it had a feature length episode suffixed with "The Movie" released, so I'm going to claim that it counts here! For me, the trio of great 1980s cartoons were Transformers, G.I. Joe (or Action Force as I knew it) and Thundercats. Transformers and G.I. Joe have been shown to be extremely profitable at the box office and so I'm amazed that there isn't a serious push by Hollywood to get Thundercats to the big screen. It was intended to make a film back in 2007, but after a director was named it didn't really get much further. Subsequently a new television based cartoon series has been produced which uses the same characters but it a bit of a different scenario. I haven't seen a massive amount of episodes of it, but I did enjoy it. The point I'm making is that the cartoon series will be generating new viewers for a potential film the exact same way that Transformers: Armada did prior to the first Transformers film. There was a faked trailer for a Thundercats film made a few years ago which is thoroughly enjoyable, and have a look at it here: http://youtu.be/fb50GMmY5nk
Probability: Transformers made half a billion dollars in profit. I'm shocked that some studio isn't doing this already.
