15 Films That Hated London

3. Star Trek: Into Darkness

The Synopsis - When the Star Trek franchise was rebooted by J.J. Abrams (and his best friend Lens Flare) in 2009, many were sceptical of the idea. The film turned out to be an excellent one, however, making expectations for the sequel, Into Darkness, high. Said sequel shows Kirk (Chris Pine) in command of the Enterprise, which is commanded to hunt down 'John Harrison' (Benedict Cumberbatch) by Starfleet. It transpires, however, that the intention of Starfleet Admiral Marcus (Peter Weller) is to have the ship attack 'Harrison' on the Klingon homeworld of Kronos, where it will be destroyed in retaliation by the natives, giving Marcus justification to begin a war. 'Harrison' complicates matters, however, becoming the true villain of the piece as he tries to indiscriminately unleash vengeance on Starfleet for Marcus' betrayal, having helped the Admiral build advanced weaponry for his upcoming war. The Destruction - 'Harrison' is first introduced in a London-set scene, where he convinces a Starfleet employee with a terminally ill daughter to plant a bomb at a Starfleet archive in exchange for a blood transfusion that will save his daughter's life. Though the bombing damaged only this fictional building, its impact is felt across the London of 2242, where Nelson's Column, St. Paul's Cathedral and the London Eye are still present.
