A hit on the festival circuit but largely unknown out with, this knockout Iranian horror from short-turned-feature film director Ana Lily Amirpour takes place in the fictionalized Bad City, a bleak and lonely place in which an enigmatic young vampire woman wearing a hijab stalks the streets at night on her skateboard, preying on men who are disrespectful to women. Intriguingly described as, "the first Iranian vampire Western," this isn€™t your average vampire horror movie; in fact, it almost goes out of its way to set up audience expectations before taking things in far more interesting directions. Shot in beautiful stark black-and-white, set to a surprisingly eclectic pop soundtrack and absolutely dripping with menace and unsettling dread, it€™s a film that will effortlessly creep out even the most hardcore of horror movie fans but also give you that little bit of extra depth to latch onto.
