The Movie: A National Geographic film crew is taken hostage by an insane hunter, who takes them along on his quest to capture the world's largest - and deadliest - snake. The Scenery-Chewing Performance: Jon Voight's commitment to the role of Paraguayan snake hunter Paul Serone is something exceptional and needs to be exalted as some of the finest crazy-ham you can find on celluloid. The characters ultimate death, in which he's vomited up by the titular creature and manages to literally wink at the audience, might just be one of thee greatest moments in cinema history. One thing that adds to the surrealness of the character is the fact that its hilariously difficult to discern the precise origins of Voights accent in the film. At times, he sounds like Al Pacinos Cuban gangster in Scarface, full of delicious, dialect-mangling bluster; elsewhere, he sounds vaguely like a native Italian struggling with English as a second language. No matter, though, because Voights Sarone is by far the most compelling element of an already insane movie.
