The Movie: A sheriff investigating the disappearance of a young girl from a small island discovers there's a larger mystery to solve among the island's secretive, neo-pagan community. The Scenery-Chewing Performance: Another case of an actors hamminess elevating what is otherwise a terrible film, Nicolas Cages bizarre, shouty performance as the protagonist in Neil LaButes horrific remake of Robin Hardys horror classic is about the only thing keeping this film from evaporating from the public consciousness. Cage drives the crazy up to a level that only he can attain, with a performance so insane that punching a woman in the face while wearing a bear suit isn't the most ridiculous thing about it. In interviews, Cage confessed that his wild turn, including choice zingers like Not the bees! AHHHHHHH! and Howd it get burned?!, was totally conscious on his part, and to his credit, it makes the film all the more entertaining.
