Like Glenn Close, Amy Adams is an actress seemingly stuck in a rut, unable to win an Oscar despite the Academy nominating her at every turn.

Adams has given truly phenomenal performances in the likes of Arrival, The Fighter, American Hustle and Junebug, as well as a series of films she wasn't even nominated for, including Julie and Julia (opposite a nominated Meryl Streep), Her and Nocturnal Animals.

A self-described "obsessive" when it comes to her acting style, Adams has been known to work for hours to understand the ins-and-outs of her characters, and usually stays in character on set in order to better embody the person she's portraying.

Of course, this has all paid off wonderfully. If Adams is in a film, chances are she's going to be one of the best things in it.

Currently holding six Oscar nominations without a win, Adams is chasing Close to her unfortunate record, but given her consistent high calibre output and how often she works with Oscar-favourite directors (David O. Russell, Denis Villeneuve) there's sure to be a win in her future.
