A three-time Oscar nominee, Woody Harrelson got his start on the seminal sitcom Cheers, and has since become one of Hollywood's most recognisable movie stars.

Known for his intimidating presence as well as his ability to play strangely endearing men under insurmountable pressure, Harrelson's appeared in everything from epic war dramas (The Thin Red Line) to unconventional biopics (The People vs Larry Flynt), and classic comedies (Zombieland) to dark neo-Westerns (No Country for Old Men).

His best performances can be found in the aforementioned Larry Flynt drama, and the excellent Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, for which he secured his most recent nomination.

Constantly taking risks and appearing in everything from big blockbusters like The Hunger Games and Star Wars, to small dramas like Rampart and Out of the Furnace, Harrelson can be lovable, terrifying and everything in-between, often in the same scene.

Oscar glory has so far eluded him, but there's sure to be some victory in his future if he lands the right role.
