15 Great Directors Under The Age Of 45

5. Jason Reitman (35)

reitmanFilmography €“ Thank You For Smoking (2005), Juno (2007), Up In The Air (2009), Young Adult (2011). The youngest name on this list, Jason Reitman nevertheless has two Academy Award nominations to his name, which happens to be two more than his father Ivan, whose filmography includes comedic greats such as Ghostbusters as well as the Schwarzenegger-starring duds Twins and Kindergarten Cop. Learning his craft by working on the editing and production of his father€™s films, Reitman then began to move into the world of adverts and shorts before presenting an interesting insight into the world of lobbyists with 2005€™s Thank You For Smoking. 2007€™s Juno was what truly put him on the map, however, making $231 million on a budget of $7 million and launching the cinematic careers of Ellen Page and Michael Cera with its comedic take on the somewhat taboo subject of teen pregnancy. The film garnered Reitman€™s first Oscar nomination for Best Director, whilst Up In The Air, a 2009 George Clooney vehicle about loneliness and the world of downsizing, scored him his second. Reitman€™s most recent production, Young Adult, his third collaboration with Diablo Cody (the first being Juno and the second being Jennifer€™s Body, which he produced), attracted considerably less fanfare that it€™s two predecessors, but was still a solid effort. His next project will be Labor Day, which will star Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin.
