8. Duncan Jones (41)
Filmography Moon (2009), Source Code (2011). Another potentially controversial inclusion on this list, given his relative inexperience, is Duncan Jones, though he has been a strong contributor to the revival of science fiction, a genre that had gotten somewhat stagnant, in recent years. Otherwise known as Zowie Bowie, Jones is the son of legendary rocker David (real name David Jones), known for his roles in films such as Labyrinth as well as his forty year musical career. With a degree from London Film School, Jones began his directorial career in the fashion industry, working for French Connection before securing the acting talents of Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey for his debut film, Moon, a highly intriguing piece. Source Code, a film that saw Jake Gyllenhaal forced to relive the last eight minutes of the life of a victim of a terrorist attack over and over, was next. Acclaimed at the time of release, it has recently become a topic of discussion once again because of supposed similarities in premise between it and Bioshock Infinite. With regards to upcoming work, Jones was rumoured to be working on a biopic of James Bond creator Ian Fleming, stepping outside the realm of sci-fi for the first time. This may have been put on the backburner, however, as he has recently been announced as the director of a Warcraft adaptation instead. Perhaps he can be the one to break the curse of the video game movie once and for all.
