15 Great Horror Movies (Nobody Ever Talks About)

4. Possum

Creep Movie
Dark Sky FIlms

It’s hard to see why some of the crowd-pleasing scare-fests on this list didn’t make a splash with mainstream viewers when they first arrived at the multiplex.

Not so with Possum.

Directed by Matthew Holness (that’s right, the comic mastermind previously best known for goofy cult comedies such as Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace), this unbearably bleak British horror from 2018 deserves to be spotlighted despite its brutally oppressive atmosphere.

Okay, so admittedly it’s one of the most horrifying films of the last few years, but Possum’s restrained approach means it’s a rare psychological horror which never feels exploitative or sensationalistic despite its dark subject matter.

Go in knowing nothing, but beware—you’ll come out needing a trip to the therapist.
