More obscure than a lot of the entries on this list, 1986’s Return to Horror High is mostly only known for featuring future ER star George Clooney’s screen debut, playing a cocky one scene actor who is certain he’s destined for superstardom—only to end up getting offed by the killer moments later.
This bizarrely prescient gag is fitting for a hilarious send-up of slashers which doubled as an effective example of the subgenre a decade before Scream even existed, predicting both the meta edge of nineties horrors and their willingness to mix real scares into the clever, self-referential humour.
