15 Great Movies Starring Star Trek Actors

10. Ghost - Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan)

Logan Sir Patrick Stewart
Paramount Pictures

The EGOT honouree was already an Oscar nominee for her performance in Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple before she was beamed up for service as a long-term Trekkie, but it's her Academy Award-winning performance in the romantic fantasy - about a murdered man whose spirit must work with a psychic to save his lover from a similar fate - that stands out from the crowd.

As the medium Oda Mae Brown - who discovers she actually has a psychic gift, having been working as a charlatan before the deceased Patrick Swayze - Goldberg elevates what could often be a sentimental, syrupy and supernatural love story into something more affecting, despite playing neither lead role. It's a career highlight for her and arguably the genre itself.

Something of a culture vulture, Mr Steel can historically be found in three places; the local cinema, the local stadium or the local chip shop. He is an avowed fan of franchise films, amateur cricket and power-chords.
