15 Great Sci-Fi Movies (Nobody Ever Talks About)

David Bowie The Man Who Fell To Earth
TriStar Pictures

Written by Jurassic Park and The Andromeda Strain author Michael Crichton and directed by the Westworld helmer too, this 1984 effort was entirely overshadowed upon its release by James Cameron’s blockbuster sci-fi slasher The Terminator and it’s a damn shame it was, too.

Starring Magnum P.I’s Tom Selleck as a cop hunting killer robots and the amoral scientist creating them in a future wherein androids are an everyday presence, the film’s influence can be seen in everything from I, Robot to the recent Westworld TV adaptation.

Lighter and more kinetic than the comparable Blade Runner, the flick features impressive sci-fi action and some fantastic chase scenes as well a great early performance from Kirstie Alley, and shouldn’t be written out of sci-fi history due to some poor timing at the box office.
