15 Great Sci-Fi Movies (Nobody Ever Talks About)

13. Slaughterhouse Five

David Bowie The Man Who Fell To Earth
Universal Studios

Adapted from the best known work of American satirical author Kurt Vonnegut, this sort-of-Vietnam film follows its coolly detached protagonist Billy Pilgrim as he becomes displaced in time, drifting between different periods of time within his life like a less disciplined and more literary Quantum Leap.

Wait—it’s hardly on this list solely because of some time travel in an otherwise straight forward satire, right?

Well, not quite. Along with the Dresden bombings and his shapeless post war life, Billy often lands in the universe of alien species the Tralfamadorians, who are currently attempting to create a human zoo and need earthlings for this endeavour.

Darkly funny, trippy, and often oddly poignant, this one is perfect for anyone looking for some underrated and underseen cerebral sci fi.
