David Bowie The Man Who Fell To Earth
New Line Cinema

We’ve already highlighted this franchise’s 1987 original, an action thriller meets alien invasion horror which manages to pull of that ambitious genre crossover with the help of charismatic leading man Kyle McLachlan just prior to his tenure on Twin Peaks.

But this belated follow up from 1993 is a surprisingly solid addition to this underrated franchise, further explaining the origins of the series’ (actually only sometimes) homicidal alien antagonists whilst following a less slick, more harried cop who is forced to contend with this body-hopping threat as a new set of inexplicable violent crimes arise in a new city. Harder hitting and grittier than its predecessor, this one deserved a far better fate than its almost forgotten straight-to-video release.

In an age when every great sci fi gets an unnecessary remake, maybe these gory, propulsive thrillers could actually do with that sort of spotlighting. Eh, Hollywood?
