14. Leon - Leon
Gaumont Film Company & Columbia Pictures
The Line: "This is from Mathilda."
How He Dies: Luc Besson's Leon concludes with the titular hitman (Jean Reno) disguising himself as an NYPD ESU officer and appearing to escape the stand-off at his apartment mostly unscathed. However, as he reaches the hallway to exit the building, a shot rings out and Leon slumps to the floor. The gunman? Corrupt DEA Agent Norman Stansfield (a brilliantly demented Gary Oldman), of course. Stansfield stands over Leon's dying body as he places something in Stansfield's hand and utters his final line, much to Stansfield's confusion. Stansfield opens his hand to realise it's the pin of a grenade, and on closer inspection, realises Leon has strung himself up with a bunch of live grenades to eliminate any threat to young Mathilda (Natalie Portman). Stansfield barely has time to react, other than to say "S***", before the grenades explode, vaporising the pair of them. It's a totally awesome final line befitting an awesome character who dies in an absurdly awesome way, and what's more, we get two deaths for the price of one. What's not to like?
