8. Star Trek - Michael Giacchino
Paramount PicturesWhen J.J. Abrams rebooted Star Trek in 2009, he brought along his Lost collaborator Michael Giacchino to give life to the new adventures of Kirk and company. While Giacchino kept the classic Star Trek theme from the TV series to be used in the end credits, he opted to create an entirely new theme for this alternate look at Trek. It was a smart move, as it enabled this reboot crew to have a unique musical identity all their own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMu5jP2-c5U You can hear subtle strains of the classic Trek theme in Giacchino's theme, titled "Enterprising Young Men", which makes the grandiose version of the TOS theme at the end of the film all the more thrilling to hear. He creates a very strong sense of adventure, reminiscent of Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner's work on the previous Star Trek films. It's got a retro, 80's vibe to it, yet it's done with that trademark Giacchino magic.
