15 Greatest Opening Credit Sequences In Movies

6. Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels

The film that brought international acting fame to Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham and made a household name of director Guy Ritchie, Lock Stock was released in 1998 and presents its audiences with an opening that has it all: a solid voice-over, a brilliant character introduction, and a great soundtrack.

The opening sees Statham selling stolen goods on a street corner, sweet talking those who have come out to enjoy the show. He's smarmy, funny and charismatic, and as soon as the police turn up he's on his feet and running. What follows the start of the chase is a voice-over from a sinister-sounding Alan Ford introducing everyone to the characters they're about to watch in the rest of the film.

Pair all of this with Ocean Colour Scene's tune "Hundred Mile City", and what you have is a hilarious, high octane movie introduction designed to pull you in before you even know what's really going on. And it's amazing.
