15 Greatest Opening Credit Sequences In Movies

5. Star Wars

When it comes to open sequences, much like James Bond, Star Wars has to be at least mentioned. Who can forget the first few notes of John Williams' opening Star Wars theme? Or at least not get excited when seeing the words "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..."?

Star Wars invented the opening crawl, filling its audiences with exposition that never feels forced or out of place. Rather, it feels constantly fresh, clever and never looks down on its viewers. The fact that the sequence has remained the same all these years is a testament to the theme's iconic status, beautiful simplicity and effectiveness.

It is John Williams' score that steals the show though. The Star Wars theme is booming, epic, exciting and designed to get you raring to go. It's no wonder he took home an Academy Award for his work. For something that powerful and timeless, he deserved it all day long.
