12. Bucketheads

Rebel Scum Star Wars Fan Film

Ever wondered what Stormtroopers talk about during their down time? Bucketheads is a fan film which gives us a look behind the helmet of a Stormtrooper and shows a level of humanity otherwise neglected in the Star Wars universe.

Released in 2018 and with over 2 million views to date, Bucketheads takes the focus away from the Sith and Jedi and takes a deeper look at the expendable foot soldiers - The Stormtroopers. Written, produced and directed by Marco Bossow and Andy Brown, this fan film packs a lot of emotional depth and humanity into just 11 minutes.

The story focuses on a squad of Stormtroopers tasked with taking over a Rebel base. After capturing a high profile prisoner, they soon find themselves caught in an ambush and have to fight their way out.

There is so much to praise about this short film. From breathtaking cinematography to incorporating a Wilhelm scream but the best thing about this fantastic fan film is the writing. As mentioned previously, Bossow and Brown managed to create a story with buckets of emotion and forever changed the way Stormtroopers are perceived.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
