6. The Royal Tenenbaums - "Family isn't a word. It's a sentence."
One must doff ones proverbial cap to such sublime word play as this. Far from being just a clever joke however, it also leads in neatly to the movies theme of dysfunctional families and the frustration they can cause as well as deftly incorporating Andersons sharp sense of humour. As one might expect from an Anderson movie, the main characters all posses their own quirks and foibles and in the case of the three Tenenbaum children, they have all experienced a mid-life slump which Anderson traces back to their father's decision to walk out on them when they were young. As such, the tagline proves to be a painfully accurate appraisal of life as a Tenenbaum.
