13. The Toxic Avenger

A remake of Troma's iconic superhero splatter movie has been in the works for some time now - since 2010, in fact - but it's mostly stalled since then, with various different incarnations hitting the skids.

At one point it was set to be a PG-13 remake, at another Arnold Schwarzenegger was set to star in it (he dropped out for Terminator Genisys) and at yet another, Guillermo Del Toro was linked with producing it. All of those versions are dead, but back in December, it was revealed that Legendary Pictures had taken the rights on and this year hired I Don’t Feel At Home in This World Anymore director Macon Blair in a surprising (but great) move.

The tale of a toxic superhero seeking to rid the world of bullies is probably the least conventional of all on this list, but that's what makes it so exciting.
