15 Horror Movies That Actually Need Remakes

9. Annabelle (2014)

The Original: A prequel spin-off from the hugely successful 2013 horror The Conjuring, Annabelle revolves around the titular doll who terrorises a suburban couple and their newborn baby. It's dull, full of predictable jump scares and takes itself far, far too seriously. But it made $256.5 million on just a $6 million budget, so there's clearly no accounting for taste. Why It Needs A Remake: Because the killer doll genre needs a comeback given how limp the Child's Play franchise is these days. Rather than take the restrained approach to Annabelle's activities (where she's never seen coming alive in the film), a remake should go full-tilt Chucky, having her running around and causing mayhem. Sure, it'd up the CGI budget something fierce, but there's a lot to be said for a silly film that knows exactly what it is. Sadly, in its current iteration, Annabelle is a stupid film with no clue about that fact. How Likely Is It?: 3/10. A sequel is much more likely right now, so don't expect a remake until Warner Bros. is content that they've driven the character into the ground like a rusty tent peg. Frankly it's not the most original idea in the world, so it wouldn't be surprising to see another "female killer doll" film sometime down the line. Hopefully it'll capture the creepy look of the Annabelle doll but just give her more of interest (not to mention actual entertainment value) to do. Obviously, this would be a while off anyway, given how recent the film is.
