Wounds is one of those movies that hit streaming services and was immediately buried underneath a pile of other content. For those who have seen it, the reception is split to say the least. Viewers either seem to love it or hate it. Wherever you may land on the scale, the source material it spawned from is worth your time.

Almost a straight adaption of Nathan Ballingrud's 2015 story The Visible Filth, Wounds is about a man named Will who finds a lost cell phone after a nasty barfight. He slowly begins to realize that it may not be mere chance that the phone came into his possession, and must unravel its secrets before something sinister consumes what little humanity he has left.

The Visible Filth was later featured in Ballingrud's 2019 interconnected collection Wounds: Six Stories From The Border of Hell which, if there is any justice in the world, should get the anthology treatment. While the movie is solid in its own right, the collection goes into way more depth on its cosmic horror and religious themes. It is hands down one of the best works of horror fiction in years and deserves so much more love than it gets.
