14. The Conjuring 3

Ever since The Conjuring became a surprise smash-hit back in 2013, New Line Cinema has cultivated its own horror universe sprung off from its success. James Wan returned to helm a great sequel in 2016, but the main series has been on the back-burner ever since while side characters like The Nun and Annabelle continue to rake in millions of dollars and lead their own franchises.

Perhaps because they're far quicker (and cheaper) to produce, the focus has been on building these characters as much as possible, with the original stars Vera Fermiga and Patrick Wilson even reprising their roles in the upcoming Annabelle sequel.

New Line are finally finding time to give fans that third main movie though, even if it won't quite be what everyone is expecting. James Wan has since become one of the hottest directors around following Aquaman and Fast and Furious 7, and sadly won't be back in the director's chair for The Conjuring 3. Instead, he's picked out newcomer Michael Chaves to take the reigns, who'll deliver the long-awaited sequel later next year.
