Nicolas Roeg's The Witches is a genuine oddity. The 1990 dark-fantasy film failed miserably at the box office, but in the years since has transformed into a cult-classic, no doubt because of just how much it scared the pants off every kid who saw it on VHS two decades ago.

Perhaps to cash in on that nostalgia, Roald Dahl's classic novel is getting another adaption next year, this time from director Robert Zemeckis and with Anne Hathaway signed up to play the Grand High Witch. While Zemeckis might not be as inspired as the previously-attached director, Guillermo Del Toro, his brand of surreal fantasy is still perfect for source material like this.

There's so much you can do with Dahl's work, and as long as it doesn't try to replicate the weird quirks of the original film, Zemeckis' take should definitely be worth checking out in 2020.
