15 Incredibly Late Sequels That Took Decades To Arrive
3. TRON: Legacy - 28 Years
The Previous Film: TRON (1982) The computer design may have been cutting edge, but against what E.T., The Thing and Blade Runner were pulling off that same year with practical effects from the moment it was released TRON was a bit dated. Set inside the world of video games the plot is hardly worth remarking on, but the visuals were highly creative and would inspire a whole generation of animators. A curio now for being the first film to integrate live-action and computer effects, it really offers little more than nostalgia. The Late Sequel: TRON: Legacy (2010) There couldn't have been a TRON sequel any earlier. It took thirty years for the impressionable kids who could look past the corniness and unobjectively love the film to grow into adults capable of actually getting one made. And it really is the sort of fan-fiction you'd expect; Jeff Bridge's Flynn, the hero of the original, has been trapped by his computer avatar and his son must save him and stop an invasion of the real world by the computer programs. Bizarre. Was It Worth The Wait? It really depends on how much of an emotional connection you can make with CGI Jeff Bridges; the story is the same old sci-fi mumbo jumbo, only turned up to eleven. The visual design, at the very least, make it worth at least checking out.
