15 Incredibly Late Sequels That Took Decades To Arrive

2. The Old Couple II - 30 Years

The Previous Film: The Odd Couple (1968) The Odd Couple is one of the simplest ideas in comedy - two opposing people live together - but what made it work so well was spot on casting and a stellar script. Based off of the same play that the well remembered TV show took inspiration from, the film saw Jack Lemmon as neat-freak Felix and Walter Matthau as slob Oscar. Sentimental to just the right level, it still feels pretty sharp today. The Late Sequel: The Odd Couple II (1999) After the success Lemmon and Matthau had with Grumpy Old Men in the early-nineties, it was decided to have them reprise their best known roles in a sequel. Through extreme contrivance the duo reteam for a road trip and supposed hilarity ensues. If you can't guess the ending then you aren't trying hard enough. Was It Worth The Wait? What did we say way back with Blues Brothers 2000 about late-in-the-day comedy sequels? The cast may be back, but the humour feels forced. Outside of the safety of the original script Oscar and Felix just don't work.
