15 Indie Horror Movies To Watch This Halloween
4. Raw
The French sure do know how to make people squirm, and this terrific film from Julia Ducournau is easily one of the most auspicious feature debuts of the last few years, regardless of genre.
An extremely disturbing film about one young woman (Garance Marillier) wrestling with her latent cannibalistic tendencies, Raw manages to be a thoroughly compelling character study and gonzo gorefest all at once.
Marillier gives one of the year's best performances as a woman struggling to deal with her blossoming urges, and though Ducournau refuses to turn away from the more grim realities of the scenario, the film also avoids feeling like an exploitation piece.
Beautifully shot, shockingly gory at times and thoroughly boundary-pushing, Raw will have meat-eaters and veggies alike skipping their next meal.
