15 Insufferable Horror Movie Characters You Secretly WANTED To Die

5. Paxton, Josh And Oli - Hostel

Unfriended 2014

This case basically ruined the entire film.

In this torture porn horror film, three backpackers - two Americans named Paxton (Jay Hernandez) and Josh (Derek RIchardson) and an Icelandic man named Oli (Eythor Gudjonsson) - journey to Slovakia in search of women to shag and fall into the clutches of Elite Hunting, a nightmarish organisation where rich people pay for the chance to torture kidnapped people to death.

Hostel isn't good and the most common criticism is how unlikable the three main characters are made it impossible to become invested in their survival. That sums it up very well.

Paxton, Josh and Oli are a trio of immature, obnoxious and misogynistic d**ks; when you hear disparaging talk about young people behaving badly abroad, these three perfectly epitomise that. Josh is a little better, but not by much. This isn't the fault of the actors as all three of them are very good, but that doesn't save these characters.

Essentially, you'll be hating all three of them and since there's no-one to root for, the film falls apart. It's impressive in a bad way that even the nightmarish ordeal these three go for isn't enough to make you like them.
