15 Insufferable Movie Protagonists That Ruined Their Movies

11. Atlas - Now You See Me

Bella Swan
Summit Entertainment

Wow, this guy is just the worst isn't he?

A smug and unbearably irritating magician/criminal who smirks and boasts his way through this disappointing heist thriller, this is by far and away one of Jesse Eisenberg's worst film roles to date.

In fairness, Eisenberg doesn't do anything particularly wrong with what he was given, but the writing hugely lets him down. There are plenty of arrogant, A-hole genius characters out there, such as the MCU's Tony Stark/Iron Man, but such characters need more depth and complexity to work, as well as examinations of why they are such difficult people. Sadly, Atlas has none of this and is just a one-note, excruciatingly annoying character from start to finish.

Now You See Me was never going to be anything that great, but if this lead character had been even slightly likable it would've been an easier watch for sure.

The film's unasked-for sequel was even worse than the original but it did at least make Atlas less tiresome, so we should be grateful for that.
