13. Daniel Craig Initially Rejected The Role

Coming off of a starring role in Layer Cake, Daniel Craig looked like he was starting to make a name for himself. Still far from being a big star, however, it was somewhat shocking to learn that Craig passed on the chance to play James Bond very early on in the casting process.

Expecting the corny gags of the Pierce Brosnan movies and re-treads of familiar plots, Daniel Craig turned down the iconic role over a year before the script had even been written.

Fast forward the clock and finally, the script for the gritty and realistic Casino Royale was ready. Craig was re-approached, and was immediately taken with this new spin on the character and signed on. At the time, he was seen as somewhat of a risky choice but the benefits of hindsight let us know what a smart bit of casting it was.
