15 Kids Movie Moments That Felt More Like Horror Films
2. The Irony Of Pleasure Island - Pinocchio (1940)
In Medieval morality plays, allegorical plots and personifications of moral attributes were used to make the protagonist choose good over evil. Similarly, in Pinocchio the animated feature shows us how, by choosing the wrong path, you can be turned into a jackass and sent off to work in the salt mines, quite literally. The scary moment in question takes place on Pleasure Island, a seemingly fun place for kids to do everything their parents wont let them. The good parts include playing pool, drinking beer, smoking cigars, and probably staying up past their bedtime too. The bad part: they indeed get turned into donkeys and forced into slavery. The transformation of Pinocchios friend Lampwick into a jittering jackass looks as painful and distressing as anything you'd find in a David Cronenberg movie. Theres also something about all those kids being whisked off to a faraway destination, smoking cigars and acting loutish, only to find themselves transforming into donkeys that is well, its just mental, isnt it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgmfV5VLHvs
