15 Laziest Movie Sequels Of All Time

9. Home Alone 2: Lost In New York (1992)

20th Century Fox

Home Alone was a massive success when it hit theatres in 1990, becoming the second highest-grossing movie of the year with an incredible $476.7m. Two years later came the inevitable sequel, which strictly followed the template set by the original to the extent that John Williams ended up reusing most of the music from the first movie.

After yet another mishap by seemingly the worst parents in the world, Macaulay Culkin ends up stranded in New York by himself, conveniently armed with a wallet full of cash. From here, the movie shamelessly regurgitates elements of the original while bringing nothing new to the table, repeating set-pieces and jokes in the hopes that if you found it funny the first time you probably will again. Audiences did, and Home Alone 2 ended up earning over $350m at the box office.

However, what was fresh and original in the first movie had become stale and repetitive, in what was essentially the exact same movie in a different setting. Some of the visual gags do remain entertaining, and Joe Pesci is again on reliable form as one half of the returning Wet Bandits.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
