15 Likely Movie Sequels That Hopefully Will Never Happen
15. Shrek 5
Previous Movies: Shrek burst onto the animation scene in 2001, winning the first ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and even earning a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for its subversive depiction of classic fairy-tale characters. Shrek 2 was pretty much more of the same, a hilarious adventure with an outrageous number of pop-culture references, before things began to take a nose-dive with the watchable yet uninspired Shrek the Third. 2010 saw the release of the fourth and apparently final movie, Shrek Forever After (in 3D, of course), which earned better reviews than the previous movie, though was still regarded to be massively inferior to the classic original two films. The Sequel: Though DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg originally had Shrek planned for a five-film arc, this was ultimately retracted, with Shrek Forever After being engineered as the series finale. However, in an interview earlier this year, Katzenberg stated, "We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest...but I think you can be confident that we'll have another chapter in the Shrek series." Why It Should Never Happen: It's gotten to the point now that the Shrek series has as many mediocre entries as brilliant ones, and as such a potentially so-so fifth film would tip the balance in a bad way. Sure, letting Shrek simmer for a few more years could allow a certain creative rejuvenation, but given how Shrek Forever After truly felt like it brought Shrek's story to a close, this just feels like total overkill.
