Previous Movie: This year's live-action take on Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of the "villainous" Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) cooked up a box office storm despite mixed reviews, grossing $757 million, making it the third highest-grossing film of the year. The Sequel: Few movies not directed by Christopher Nolan make this much money without a sequel being churned out at some point, and given the clear potential to tell another tangential story about Maleficent's life, it's easy to see why Disney are keen for another go-around. Angie herself also seems up for it, stating earlier in the year, "Maybe I'll get the chance to play her again." Why It Should Never Happen: It's not like Maleficent was a particularly great film to begin with, largely succeeding due to the impressive effects and Jolie's performance rather than for the forgettable revisionist narrative. A sequel would feel like total overkill, considering that Maleficent's story has now been told, and it feels pretty complete in of itself. Still, money talks, and with a box office gross like this, it'll probably get made within the next 3-to-5 years.
