15 Likely Movie Sequels That Hopefully Will Never Happen

8. The Expendables 5

Previous Movies: The Expendables opened to mixed critical reviews but was a commercial storm for an R-rated movie, pulling in $274 million. A franchise was born and, two years later, the more comedic sequel was released to mostly positive reviews and an impressive $305 million gross. Then came The Expendables 3 this past August, which received the worst reviews of the series, largely for its PG-13 rating, which combined with the movie being leaked in DVD quality weeks before release, caused it to recoup the lowest receipts of the series, in $206 million. Rather than unwaveringly blame the disappointing box office on piracy, however, Sly did man up and admit that the PG-13 rating was a mistake, while assuring fans that The Expendables 4 will be rated R. Though little is known about number four yet (except that Pierce Brosnan, Manny Pacquiao and Hulk Hogan will reportedly be in it), it is almost certain to follow the same release pattern as the previous films, hitting cinemas in August 2016. The Sequel: A fifth Expendables film has also been tacitly confirmed, though of course, it all depends on how well EX4 does, and whether or not the hardcore action audience feels too burned by EX3 to bother watching another one, even with the promise of an R-rating. Still, EX5 will likely hit screens in the summer of 2018...if it happens. Why It Should Never Happen: While there is a perverse pleasure to these movies, is a fifth movie in this series really what people want? By the time they're potentially filming EX5 in 2017, Stallone will be 71, Arnie will be 70, and even Jason Statham will be 50. Hell, if they could convince him to come back, Chuck Norris will be 77... With the ages that the likes of Stallone and Arnie are at. every year adds a lot of difficulty for making the fight scenes look convincing, and if they just have to stick to firing guns the whole time because their mobility is limited, it's going to be more sad and depressing than fun.
