15 Live-Action Remakes Disney Are Currently Developing

12. Pinocchio

The Original: Based on the 1883 novel, The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, Disneyʼs animated adaptation debuted in cinemas in 1940 and won two Academy Awards. A sequel was in development as recently as 2001, but was cancelled by the studio, which has led us to the live-action re-imagining. The Planned Remake: Oscar-nominated writer and director Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood, Inherent Vice) will write the live-action take on the classic Disney animated feature and may also end up directing his script. Tim Burton was originally eyed to direct, but has now signed on to direct the Dumbo remake. Iron Man star Robert Downey, Jr. is signed up to star as Geppetto in what is being tipped to be a traditional retelling of the tale. Downey, Jr. is reported to be working closely with Anderson in tweaking drafts of the script. It will be the first time the two have collaborated (although not for lack of trying - it being suggested Anderson wanted Downey, Jr. to play the lead in his latest movie, Inherent Vice, but scheduling conflicts negated it from happening).

Martin Scorsese fanboy; Can prove in 140-characters why Michael Bay is a hack, and I enjoy a bit of Gridiron at the weekends.
