Oscar Win: Best Sound Editing

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 25%

Michael Bay's blockbuster output has a pretty consistent quality to it: they're panned by critics, make tons of money (mostly) and scoop a few technical Oscar nominations here and there.

Pearl Harbor remains his only film to date to actually win an Oscar, though, and thanks to the film's abundance of stupendously over-the-top action, it's hard to call it undeserved. It sure didn't hurt that it was one of only two nominees that year, with its only competition being Monsters, Inc.

The film was also the first ever Worst Picture Razzie nominee to win an Oscar, and if you've ever sat through all 183 minutes of this unbearably bombastic, overwrought film, you'll know why it's so widely-loathed.

Bay's attempt to craft his own Titanic, Pearl Harbor is bogged down by a risible love triangle plot, wooden dialogue and acting, and brutal pacing. As a package, it sucks, but the Oscar win shouldn't be contentious.
