15 Maddest Scientists In Movie History

7. Ellie Sattler (Jurassic Park)

You never had control! That's the illusion! Now I was overwhelmed by the power of this place. But I made a mistake, too. I didn't have enough respect for that power and it's out now.

Paleobotanist, Ellie Sattler knows how to tell it like it is. Jurassic Park is filled with many great scientific minds, some understand what they are attempting better than others, and Dr. Sattler is one that does not underestimate the danger of the power that is trying to be wielded. Along for the ride to tour the dinosaur theme park, Jurassic Park, Sattler is invited to assess the safety of the cloned-dinosaur facility after an incident worries investors. As an expert in extinct ecosystems, she initially becomes mesmerized by the beauty and brilliance of the park but quickly recognizes the faults. Noting Hammond's lack of understanding, care, or focus on replicating an authentic environment from 60 million years ago, she asserts that Jurassic Park clearly displays its overall ignorance of the ecosystem required to contain these animals. Sattler is not your damsel-in-distress or your cliché, obvious crap-out imitation of a real female scientist (looking at you Natalie Portman as Jane Foster). She is not afraid to get her hands dirty and let the men know that out-of-date gender roles are bogus when she is more capable than most. Funny, yet down to earth, Sattler makes a great name not just for female scientist representations in film, but for female protagonist in general.
