3. Doctor Zira & Doctor Cornelius (Planet Of The Apes1968)
This engaged pair of chimpanzees share this spot as they both push the limits and patience of their society, putting their careers and lives on the line to assist Taylor, a captured human, escape to freedom. In this film, an astronaut, Taylor, crash lands on a mysterious planet where the roles of human and ape are reversed. Apes are evolved with the intellect that equals our own, and humans are mute and savage beasts that either roam jungles or are used in scientific experiments by the apes themselves. Latter happens to the human, Taylor. As Taylor shows behaviors, such as communication and reasoning (not present in humans on this planet), animal (or human) psychologist, Zira, and her archaeologist fiancé, Cornelius, push their luck as they try to protect Taylor from the other apes and prove that he is not an animal but something more for his kind. The ape society is strict and vastly organized by caste, and Zira and Cornelius walking on thin ice by going against the law and faith of the land by assisting Taylor. Authorities go as far as charging the pair with heresy. As one of the few apes in the film to show sympathy towards Taylor despite accepted norms, Zira and Cornelius stand out as scientists as not just being ape instead of human but also in their own severe culture.
