Coming six years after Hot Fuzz, there was a lot of pressure heaped upon The World's End as the climax to the Cornetto Trilogy - pressure it ultimately buckled under the weight of.

Despite its bigger budget, the movie only made just over half of what Fuzz did at the box-office, and weaker reviews to boot, with the movie seen as solid but not in the same league as the previous two efforts from Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost.

It's true that the movie isn't as good as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, but there isn't as much between them as is often suggested, and that barometer often overlooks how much The World's End gets right. Not only does it expertly send-up alien invasion movies, but it tragically captures a sense of growing older and being left behind, and even if it's not the funniest of the three, it is the most emotionally mature, and features Pegg's best performance in the series.
