15 Memorable Moments From This Year's Oscars

13. Everyone Ignores The "Get Off The Stage" Music

After Ida won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, director Pawe‚ Pawlikowski headed to the stage to give a speech, and took the sort of stand against the Oscar producers that more winners really should. Outside of the more high-profile awards, the show typically likes to shepherd the "lesser" award winners off as quickly as possible, playing "play-off" music to encourage them to leave, but Pawlikowski was having none of it. As he continued to thank his family and friends amid the music, the producers seemed to realise he wouldn't back down and actually stopped playing the "get off the stage" music. The audience laughed at his steadfast attitude, and perhaps his true victory of the night was being one of the few to stand up to the awards show's big-wigs. This occurred again later on, when Dana Perry was giving her speech for Best Documentary Short Subject winner Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1. The music began to play, but as soon as Perry mentioned her son's recent suicide, the producer cut the music off. Alas, for the remainder of the ceremony, nobody really seemed to care all that much about the gentle play-off music, and just as well.
