15 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Hamilton: An American Musical

2. Getting It Right

This little detail is a testament to the passion and drive of Miranda. Back in the early stages of the writing process, he began working on the first song - "Alexander Hamilton." In an interview with 60 Minutes, Miranda said that it took him a year to write just this one song. When it was finally completed, he began work on the next big anthem, "My Shot."

"My Shot" is one of - if not the - biggest song of the entire show, an anthem that encapsulates the musical in its entirety. But, like the opening number, "My Shot" also took him a year to write. As previously noted, he performed the first song in 2009 at the White House, but it wasn't until 2010 than he had another song ready to go.

According to Miranda, it took so long because he was constantly trying to make every rhyme, every couplet and every beat as perfect as he could, and was always trying to out-do himself. Based on the attention the finished project received, the work has most definitely been worth it.

Miranda would return to the White House in 2016, cast in tow, and perform "My Shot" in all its glory.
