15 Most Critically Adored Films 2016 - Ranked
6. The Jungle Book
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 94% (268 reviews)
Movie remakes and reboots can be tricky business, but there was one film this year that proved with the right cast and crew that they can be done right. Hint: it wasn’t Ghostbusters.
Part live-action and part CGI-animated, Jon Favreau’s take on The Jungle Book retained all the charm of the original 1967 film but updated for modern, young audiences with stunningly realistic visual effects.
Featuring child actor Neel Sethi as Mowgli in his debut feature and boasting an all-star voice cast including Bill Murray as Baloo, Idris Elba as Shere Khan and Christopher Walken as a supersized version of King Louie, many a critic even went so far as to state Favreau’s Jungle Book was a massive improvement on its predecessor.
