15 Most Critically Adored Horror Movies Of 2018

3. Annihilation

Why Halloween Just Killed Up At The Box OfficeThumb
Paramount

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 88% (7.8/10)

Alex Garland's ambitious sci-fi horror may have proven too ambitious for some audiences, but those prepared to take his demented plunge were rewarded with one of the smartest and most provocatively unforgettable horrors of the last few years.

Natalie Portman leads a terrific - and mostly female - cast in this ultra-atmospheric offering, which delivers rich characters and at least two soul-ripping sequences you won't shake for weeks.

One of the boldest and most inventive films of any kind in 2018, Annihilation deserved a better fate than being quietly dumped on Netflix for most of the world, but at least you've basically got no excuse not to watch it.
