Rotten Tomatoes Score: 93% (7.4/10)

A stunning directorial debut for Coralie Fargeat, Revenge takes the typical rape-revenge movie formula and cleverly subverts it with some timely nods towards the #MeToo movement, alongside Robrecht Heyvaert's eye-melting cinematography and a terrific performance from Matilda Lutz.

Make no mistake: Revenge is not for the faint of heart or stomach, but if you can handle its queasy violence and the repugnant behaviour of its male characters, there is an uncommonly visceral and satisfying genre effort here.

With stronger visuals, better acting and a more delicate handle on its tone than practically any prior entry into the rape-revenge sub-genre, Revenge is stomach-churningly good and at times even unexpectedly surreal.
