Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead follow-up their 2014 cult favourite romantic horror film Spring with this similarly artful, haunting effort about two brothers - played by Benson and Moorhead themselves - returning to visit the apparent cult they left years prior.

Slow-paced and minimalist but brilliantly acted and visually impressive considering its tight budget, The Endless unfurls a compulsively compelling mystery alongside strong and surprisingly poignant character work.

Like several other films on this list this is a movie best viewed without much prior knowledge, because its deliberate rewards will prove all the more satisfying.

Above all else, this confirms Benson and Moorhead as one of the most compelling indie filmmaking duos working today.
