15 Most Disappointing Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)
3. Thor: Love And Thunder
The train of MCU disappointments keeps chugging along. Still, this one was especially depressing.
With the trailers being pretty promising and the highly talented Taika Waititi, who'd helmed the beloved Thor: Ragnarock back in 2017, returning to write and direct, it was a nasty surprise when this actually turned out to be one of the MCU's worst. Unsurprisingly, it's already become one of the franchise's most loathed films.
The performances are fine and Taika Waititi's directing is still visually stunning but on the whole, you could easily rename this movie 'Love and Blunder'.
Not only is it a weightless and inconsequential affair that actually undermines Thor as a character by regressing him to a jokey buffoon, but the comedy is mostly ineffective, the story is atrocious, character development is largely absent and there's such a lazy, going-through-the-motions vibe to the whole thing. Perhaps the biggest display of that is that the movie plays 'Sweet Child of Mine' about three or four times.
If Marvel Studios want there to be any audience left by the time Avengers: The Kang Dynasty arrives in 2025, they need to get their act together. Like, now.
